PROJECT 1
Veteran Education Assistance Scheme
Pursuing further education after serving in the Australian Defence Force is an avenue many veterans look to as they seek to transition into a rewarding career. The Australian Government currently has study assistance programs in place for serving members (Defence Assisted Study Scheme), transitioning members (Defence Force Transition Program) and eligible members under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (Cth) and the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (Cth).
It is proposed that much like the Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme (DHOAS), Australian veterans accrue study funding during their service to assist them in pursuing further education upon discharging from the Defence Force. Under a Veteran Education Assistance Scheme, veterans may obtain financial assistance for such things as tuition, fees and study supplies for university, TAFE, or other registered training organisations.
Several advantages may be drawn from implementing such a scheme, including:

-
Assist veterans transitioning into the workforce,
-
improve recruitment,
-
recognise service and sacrifice, and
-
promote the skills veterans bring to the workforce.
